Frequently Asked Questions
WHY SHOULD I BUY FROM YOU?
We know you have a choice of where to buy from. There are many reasons why you should choose us. Firstly the owners of the company have only ever worked in the flooring industry and are wooden flooring specialists. Our business has evolved massively from humble beginnings in 1997 to now being a major player in the Irish and Scottish markets. We are very unusual in our market in that we are almost totally self sufficient, importing the over whelming majority of our goods direct from source. This in turn keeps our prices increasingly competitive. To give further credence to this we also work in tandem with a lot of manufacturers developing products and brands sold into many global markets, eg Causeway, Green Mountain, Evolution, Balento, Giant etc. These brands are exclusively supplied to The Wooden Floor Company / The Wooden Floor Store. We actually wholesale these brands to other flooring companies throughout the UK too, again illustrating 2 of the most important things to our customers, No.1 the quality is excellent and No.2 we are very much on the ball price wise too. Finally we literally scour the globe to bring you the latest trends and most up to date products, at all times though taking great care to ensure ethical and environmental high practice.
WHAT TYPES OF FLOORING DO YOU SUPPLY?
We sell laminate flooring, from the very budget laminate to the high end laminate, costing more money than some of our solid woods! We sell engineered flooring (alson known as veneered or hardwood), solid wood flooring, tile effect laminates and luxury vinyl.
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LAMINATE, ENGINEERED AND SOLID?
Laminate flooring is compromised of a photographic image compressed onto a high density fibre backboard. It is generally hard wearing and is available in different depths usually from 6mm to 12mm. The most common depth is 8mm and this depth is widely used domestically and in the commercial market place, bars, restaurants, hair salons etc. Nowadays many of our customers can't believe how realistic looking laminate flooring has become. Laminates have developed hugely in the last five years with textured finishes, v groove and random length being some of the exciting features now on offer.
Engineered wooden flooring is made to comply with underfloor heating. However you don't need to have underfloor heating to install it. Indeed many of our customers don't have underfloor heating and fit enginnered flooring on top of traditional wooden or concrete sublfloors. Engineered wooden flooring is very stable, (more so than solid wooden flooring) especially if you are looking at some of our real wood super wide oak boards at almost 1 foot wide and 8 feet in length. Engineered boards normally have a multilayered ply back or can have a centre core made from high density fibreboard on both options with a veneer on top. The veneer varies normally from 2mm to 6mm with the overall board thickness varying from 10mm to 21mm. These products can be bought based on the depth either in a click or tongue and groove version.
Solid wooden flooring is, for example 100% solid oak all the way through the plank. The boards usually come in random lengths and depths vary from 15mm to 18mm. The widths vary from 75mm all the up to 180mm. Solid wooden flooring can be nailed or glued depending upon the subfloor.
I HAVE UNDERFLOOR HEATING, CAN I STILL FIT WOODEN FLOORING?
Yes, absolutely no problem! We recommend engineered wooden flooring. See section on the difference between laminate, engineered and solid wooden flooring above.
OK, I HAVE FOUND THE FLOOR FROM YOU THAT I WANT, BUT DO YOU SELL ACCESSORIES TO HELP ME COMPLETE THE JOB?
Of course, yes, we sell a range of underlays which are necessary for certain types of our flooring. We also sell skirting boards, beading, door threshold bars, adhesives and nails!
I THINK I HAVE FOUND A CHEAPER PRICE, CAN YOU BEAT IT?
We have a policy not to be beaten on price on a like for like product found anywhere in the UK. We continually monitor our competitor's prices and actively set our prices to be lower than these. First of all we would ask for a written quote or at least the contact details of your other potential supplier. If importantly the type, grading, quality and spec are the same we will beat the price (if the price elsewhere is current and the product in stock), terms and conditions apply. We are very well known for supplying a massive range of products at incredible prices all year round.
WHEN CAN I GET MY FLOOR?
Again, unlike many of our competitors we carry huge stocks. On a lot of occasions the products are available "off the shelf", you can literally turn up and take it away! We do recommend if you are working to tight time frames that where possible you can give some notice.
CAN YOU ADVISE HOW TO FIT THE FLOORING?
Absolutely, no problem. All of the products come complete with instructions, and all of our staff can advise on fitting queries as well. Everyone is well trained and most staff have worked a minimum of five years with the company. If you don't want to fit the floor yourself, we can recommend installers to do this for you. For total peace of mind, no money is paid to the fitters for installation until the job is completed to your total satisfaction!
